WIVEY WALKERS – 25 years old in 2026!
If you enjoy walking around Wiveliscombe and the surrounding area, why not join Wivey Walkers? We are a friendly, informal group and there are numerous walks each month usually on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We aim to offer a range and variety of walks starting either in Wivey Square or further afield, for example in the Brendon Hills, Exmoor, Quantocks or Blackdowns. Walks vary in length and pace from 5 to 10 miles and are subject to weather conditions and terrain and may change. Walking boots or strong shoes are advised, and we usually stop for coffee and again for a picnic lunch so do bring refreshments along.
We welcome all ages and ask that under 18s are accompanied by an adult who will be responsible for them. Dogs on leads are welcome on most walks but please check with the leader when booking. We look forward to seeing you on a walk very soon – here’s the latest walking schedule February – April 26
Gentle Walks: Alongside the main walking group, shorter and less challenging routes between 2 and 4 miles long are available through the Gentle Wivey Walkers. This group meets once a fortnight, usually on a Wednesday afternoon, but the day of the week, meeting point and time can vary. The walks are quite leisurely and a brief description of the route is given in advance by email, with an indication of the degree of difficulty in terms terrain, gradient, stiles etc. Ideal for less vigorous walkers as well as those recovering from injury or surgery, with a variety of routes and different walk leaders, and an optional last stop which is usually a cuppa in a local hostelry. More information and details are available from the Gentle Walkers coordinators, Ros and Annie, on walkergentle3@gmail.com
Wivey Amblers was launched to provide very gentle, short walks to help build up strength, balance and confidence. Afterwards they recover with tea and cake! The Amblers group is affiliated to Wivey Cares, a charity connecting those with a need with those that can help within the Wivey community. They have plans to hold group mobility sessions such as Tai Chi or armchair pilates on wet winter days when walking is not possible.
